What are Individual Support Plans?
Individual Support Plans (ISPs) are a new statutory requirement introduced by the 2026 Schools White Paper for every child with identified SEND who does not have an EHCP. They replace the informal, inconsistent approach many schools currently take — and they're coming whether your systems are ready or not.
An ISP must document the child's needs, the provision being made, the outcomes being targeted, and evidence of progress. It must be co-produced with parents and reviewed regularly. Ofsted will look for them as evidence of a school's SEND governance.
